Yes, I’m way overdue for a blog post…I wake up most mornings and tell myself that “today is the day”. However, I have found myself crawling back into bed at night thinking about how another day has passed and I haven’t been true to the commitments I made in the morning.
It’s a vicious cycle.
Have you ever felt this way about your finances? You keep telling yourself that you are going to go see that financial planner you saw the other night, or you are finally going to get that old 401k into the hands of a capable advisor…yet you don’t. Life has a funny way of getting us caught up with busyness, and we end up rationalizing with ourselves about why we just didn’t get it done. Of course, part of that process is us giving the many reasons why we haven’t what we needed to do. In this instance, I’m guilty of not sticking to my goal of regular blog updates. And, true to form, here’s a list of what’s been going on in my world:
In January, my business partners and I came to terms with another advisor to purchase his practice. Since mid-February, we have been in a full-scale merger, absorbing his practice into ours. Of course, we didn’t just blindly take on new clients–we have been going through all of our own due diligence and planning meetings with the clients that have decided to move forward with our team. This has been rewarding, yet exhausting work; and I have spent much of my free time developing planning meetings for these folks.
About 2 weeks ago, my wife and daughter were in a car accident. Thankfully, they simply had some sore muscles, but no serious injuries. Our car, however, required some time in the repair shop. This event alone upended our schedules by several days due to the unforeseen expenses and scheduling conflicts that arose from the collision. We are truly blessed that no one was injured, and the other driver’s insurance company is making us whole for the damages.
Lastly, our house has been sick. Sick. SICK!! In the last 6 weeks, I think every one of us has had some type of sinus or allergy infection/reaction/younameit going on. Perhaps this is what happens when you go from freezing temps to sunshine to freezing again in a span of a week (more than twice). Luckily, we are all back to being pretty healthy again, and it looks like Spring just might be here to stay.
So there you have it—life got in my way. Hopefully, I will be able to manage my time more effectively in the coming weeks and get back on track with my blogging plans. Until then—don’t be like me and procrastinate your life away, especially in the financial arena!!
